Several of us met for breakfast, which seemed a little ironic for a prayer and fasting ministry, to discuss ways to getting this idea off the ground. We decided to independently make a list of men that we thought might be interested in this ministry. We each tried to make a list with a wide spectrum of men. We then met again and compared notes and made another list and checked it twice. Our goal was to get 31 men, one man for each day of the month. We then hand delievered a letter to each man outlining the program and asked for a response. Below is a copy of the applicable portions of the letter that was delivered.
Dear Brother,
We as men face a nonstop assault on our integrity as men and as Christians. As the ministry of our church moves forward to reach more people for God, Satan will most assuredly mount an attack on the church and its leadership. We need to be more proactive as men in supporting the men in leadership of our church. We are in no way ignoring the female portion of our church because they too play a vital role. Our emphasis in general just happens to be men supporting the men in leadership of our church and the issues we face. (Note: With the state of the world in general, we included our active military members on our 2006 Prayer Guide.)
This group will fly "under the radar," as much as possible. We are attempting to navigate the fine line of getting the information out to other men but at the same time trying to be a "faceless" ministry. This is all about fighting it out in the trenches and not being a musician on a street corner. Through a fictitious email account, our pastor knows that we exist but not "who" we are and he knows our desire to keep it that way.
The intent is not to set up some legalistic or magical program that has to maintain 24/7 to make it work. For a variety of reasons you may need to shift your day. Possibly, a whole day won't work either depending on your situation. That's okay. Maybe for a number of reasons this isn't for you. Rest assured God is much more concerned with our heart than any program. Each November you will be given the opportunity to reconsider for the following year.
Since this letter will not self-destruct in 5 seconds, please only discuss its content with your significant other so as to help keep this as low a profile as possible. Anonymity of the whole program is extremely important. We want to keep this ministry as "faceless" as much as we can.
